LEE PRESS-ON AND THE NAILS: Playing Dirty LPN Live at the Derby CD. For their second live CD, San Francisco’s favorite swing demons descend on the City of Angels. LEE PRESS-ON AND THE NAILS careen through a raucous show recorded over two nights at Hollywood’s famous Derby nightclub.

LEE PRESS-ON AND THE NAILS are an award-winning Big Band out of San Francisco. Led by the manic Lee Press-on and the sultry Leslie Presley, they have been pounding out their peculiar brand of sinister swing since 1994.

Product Description:
Dirty continues in LPNs Gothic-swing tradition but something is different. The musician shakeup of two years ago that left the bands continuance in question actually proved a good move. The Nails of the new millennium are more mature, both lyrically and musically. Lee Press-On & the Nails is now more dancer-and listener-friendly, while at the same time retaining their playful wackiness.

Playing Dirty relies on mostly new songs and works off of Swing Is Dead, where Lee refined his lyric writing with the brilliant “Hat Back Boogie” and “That Only Happens in the Movies.” The latest album keeps up the bands spooky reputation with songs like “Devil Drums,” the Raymond Scott/Cab Calloway tune “Ghost of Smokey Joe,” and the cowpoke classic “Ghostriders in the Sky.” But the new and improved LPN, while keeping true to their dark side, also are not afraid to get a little goofy on “Cocktails for Two,” a ditty that would make Spike Jones proud, and Elvis Costellos “Wave A White Flag.” Which only goes to show, Goth kids like to cut loose too.

5.0 out of 5 stars “Like being there”,
I bought this CD when I saw LPN at the Derby in 2000. The show itself was fantastic, and the CD captured all the excitement of the night. For a live album, I was pleased with the sound quality, plus you get Lee Press-Ons quips.

As you may never have the opportunity to see LPN again (despite rumours to the contrary), this CD will create the feeling of being at one of their shows. So grab a martini, put you big pants on, turn up the volume and enjoy an night with LPN.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look at that gorgeous face…,
Not only the best CD LPN has ever recorded, but the best CD that ANYONE has ever recorded. Yes, this is the single greatest piece of recorded music known to man. Its also perfectly round for ease of use in your CD player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hells House Band,
This is a great CD! I’m usually not too crazy about live albums, but this one works. The band sounds great and they managed to get a quality recording at the Derby. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this band live once, and this CD definitely captures their live show as well as any CD can. Lee Press-On and the Nails need more credit as a swing band. After the swing revival faded, many of the bands disappeared. Lee Press-On and the Nails are still a quality outfit. They have to be admired for not doing the same thing as everyone else. If you get the chance, see them live, but buy the CD either way!

5.0 out of 5 stars LPN is the greatest!,
Lee Press-On and The Nails are one of my favorite bands and this C.D. proves their greatness even more to me. I’ve had a chance to see them live a couple of times and they are fantastic!! This C.D. was recorded live which makes me think I’m right along with them every time I play it.
This band is so tight, everything about them is amazing and this C.D. is by far their greatest one!! I recommend them highly to anyone who has a taste for good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars “Swing’n like a hangman!!!”,
This is probably my favorite LPN CD and I have them all. It shows how LPN has matured over the years. I saw them live recently at the North Beach Street Fair in San Fracisco, and they were awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars .,
A friend bought this CD at a live show, and we listened to it on the way home from the show. I can’t get over how cool LPN is or how close this CD was to the show. I especially love the version of “Cocktails for Two”. My advice: if you’ve got a chance see them live, it is time well spent. Also, in the time you’re not at one of their shows, buy this CD!! Heck buy two and give one to a friend!
Their music is a great change from all that mind-numbing pop music that so dominates radio today. Personally, I’m tired of all that music I hear on the radio and eMpTyV that only pre-pubescent eleventeen year olds like. Its time someone to rose to the challenge of making good music; something where the members of the band actually play instruments. Its time for Lee Press-On & The Nails!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hipster, Flipsters, and Finger Poppin’ Daddys, REJOICE!,
First let me say,I’m not the biggest fan of “live” albums. Its usually difficult to capture the mood, and on many occasions the band at their best. But Lee and the Gang dispel all such notions! They come out swinging,Manfred! This ain’t no Cherry Poppin’Thingamjigs…this am the real deal! The brilliant thing about this band,is the blend of classic swing, original songs, and the swing-i-fication of modern songs. ( Who can forget their version of “Jumping Jack Flash” from “Swing Is Dead” ? Or the hilarious version of “Hot For Teacher” from their debut c.d.?). This c.d. features covers of some great classics, like Raymond Scotts’ “Devil Drums”,Stan Jones'”Ghost Riders In The Sky” ( or is that Ghost HERD?),and Louie Primas’ “Sing Sing Sing”,upgraded for you dot commers as “3 Sing 2K”.There are some brilliant originals by Lee himself, including “Maelstrom” and “Dark Half”. Leslie Presley gets to strut her stuff too,and provides lovely vocals to several duets.( On songs such as Elvis Costellos “Wave A White Flag” ).Lets also not forget sax-o-phoney Mark Donnellys madcap cover of “Cocktails For Two”,a true highlight of the live shows! AND…for you Danny Elfman/Oingo Boingo Fans, they even included their version of “Goodbye Goodbye”,for you,at no extra cost! How can you lose? This is the swing band that Charles Addams & Tim Burton would’ve created…if they’d had the time.See them live! And in between….play this as a reminder of the fun you had!

I heard this CD after seeing LPN live. I thought they put on a great show and the CD is a perfect reminder why. I could close my eyes and imagine being there all over again. There is nothing quite like a live show. Not only can you hear the music, but you feel it pulsing through the room, and well… it makes you move. Crank it up and this CD captures that feeling.
