Description
The disc has some truly great tracks (Insectsamongous is a superb Zappa-ish track), with great contribution from guest artists (like Joe Satriani on tracks 2+3) and two top quality vocal numbers sung by Kip Winger (Tear before the rain being my favourite). Most of the tracks will go on truly stunning diversions taking earlier themes into territories you’d have never expected. The drumming is superb throughout from Rod Morgenstein and Daniel J guitar work is outstanding. If you’re a fan of Dream Theater, Jordan Rudess, Liquid Tension Experiment, progressive rock, jazz or any other kind of reasonably complicated music this is definitely an album to check out.

For a keyboardist’s solo project and something that is instrumental, Rhythm of Time is snappy, catchy and laden with hooks. —Â www.musicstreetjournal.com, Aug 2004

Rudess’ strongest and most powerful solo work to date, bringing the sidemen more up front in the mix — www.prog4you.com, Aug 2004
It’s hard to imagine two albums as different as the pair that Jordan Rudess released during a two-year span — 2002’s 4NYC and 2004’s Rhythm of Time. While the former is comprised of solo, tranquil compositions, the latter is a full-on modern-day prog metal assault, with a gaggle of special guests contributing to the rock fury (Joe Satriani, Steve Morse, Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, Rod Morgenstein,Kip Winger, etc.). And while the sounds of Rhythm of Time would provide a perfect soundtrack for a busy city street, Rudess supposedly recorded his parts in seclusion from the outside world over a two-week span. Before playing such over the top tunes as “Time Crunch,” “Screaming Head,” and “What Four,” be sure to strap on your seat belt. There are few keyboardists in rock as technically gifted on their instruments as Dream Theater‘s Jordan Rudess, and Rhythm of Time proves it once and for all.
