Having been an admirer of John Sloman’s work with Lone Star I quickly grabbed this when it came out. A pretty good release. There is some fine bass playing from Pino Palladino and the performances are all top notch. I do like it
Nice poppy aor LP.It has good melodic songs with nice collaborations from great musicians. If you are an open minded person, this one would be worth buying.
Mostly for fans of funky, jazzy, pop/rock. Sloman is a talented singer but for a straight rocker this stuff will get really tiring, cause Sloman never delivers the straight way, there is always a funny twist in his vocal lines…
first of all John Sloman IMHO is a great singer but probably can sound painful (in the good sense of the word) to others…the album consists of great Pop/AOR tracks also guest musicians are top class (Alan Murphy from Go West & Robert Fisher of Climie/Fisher & the very talented Pino Palladino)..my fave tracks are “Foolin’ Myself”,”Now You Say Goodbye”(love this one!),”Parting Line”(killer ballad),”Save Us” (superb ballad)…the rest of the album is pretty enjoyable …a matter of tastes but i would recommend this album 4 sure!!!.93/100
John Sloman was born as John Anthony David Sloman in Cardiff (South Wales), 26 April 1957 as the eldest of six children. He is a former member of Trapper, Pulse, Lone Star, and Uriah Heep. He was lead vocalist for Uriah Heep between 1979-1981, and during that time was on the album Conquest.
After Uriah Heep, he formed the band “John Slomans Badlands” and showcased several songs at The Marquee Theatre, ‘John Slomans Badlands’ featured former Trapper drummer John Munro and Whitesnakes John Sykes and Neil Murray . The band were ultimately passed over and John went on to record the first of his solo albums Disappearances Can Be Deceptive produced in part by Todd Rundgren. John Sykes from the UK Badlands and Ray Gillen from the U.S. Badlands also played together in Blue Murder (though Gillen left during the project and Sykes then re-recorded all the vocals by himself for the 1st album). Badlands broke up upon Sykes joining the band Thin Lizzy. Sykes and Murray later played together in Whitesnake on the U.S. version of Slide It In and on the Whitesnake album.
Since Disappearances he has released two more solo albums: Dark Matter in 2003 and more recently 13 Storeys in 2006 on which John is credited with playing everything from cello to harpsichord. He is also credited in Highlander: The Source as the vocalist who sang Queens hits Princes of the Universe and Who Wants to Live Forever.
He reportedly also recorded a solo album which hasn’t ever been released.

This is the first solo album by John Sloman, known for Uriah Heep and the Gary Moore Band. All the songs are composed by John, but they are all super high quality melodic rock. Rather than hard rock, the sound is closer to pop bands like Go West or early FM.
With the participation of now-famous Pino Palladino and Alan Murphy, famous for backing Kate Bush, the performance is also excellent.
For some reason, Todd Rundgren recorded the original in 1986, and after overdubbing in the UK in 1988, it was quietly released by FM Revolver Records in 1989. FM Revolver is a UK indie label, but they often released recordings dropped by major labels, so it is thought that this album was purchased and released from a shelved album.
John also arranged the songs, and the fifth track on side A, “Save Us,” sounds a lot like the song by Todd’s project band Utopia, so maybe John was a fan of Todd and Utopia. I recommend this to fans of Todd Rundgren too.
