Paul Martin’s band Huge Baby have toured with Napalm Death and AC/DC and now they have released their debut album. Huge Baby aren’t easy to pigeon hole and if you call them Nu-Metal Paul’s likely to deck you. The album Vibrator lulls you into a false sense of security at every turn. Just when you’ve got them down as a hardcore rock outfit they turn all mellow on you. The contrast between New York say, with its angry guitars, and manic, screaming vocals from Paul and their new single, Hanging A Sign , is a shock to the system when it’s cranked up on your stereo. One minute you’re in the mosh pit, the next you’re dropped from a great height to a chilled out track that’s completely different.
Paul says: We’re definitely not Nu-Metal more sort of rock grungey but brought up to date Vibrator’s produced by John Fryer who’s also worked with the likes of Nine Inch Nails and Raging Speedhorn. The guys have been playing on the London circuit for years and Paul arrived at a point when they might’ve given up. Now with unplugged sessions on X-FM, a debut album and some high profile gigs under their belt, it looks like it could be coming together. Huge Baby’s album Vibrator was released on Infernal Records.
==================
5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite album of 2001
There are barely words to describe how good a performance this is from this barely heard of band. In other circumstances this could have been one of the defining moments of early 2000s rock music, sadly for whatever reason it came to an end. If you haven’t heard it, I’m not surprised… you should. Stunners are Circle, Dogmeat, Hangin a Sign. The whole album is pretty flawless but these are my selected favorites.
Who knows where Huge Baby are now, who knows where they were then. They came, they conquered, they got wasted and then they got dropped! All I can say is that I’m thankful for this little gem, even if it’s all I get.
