Description

A must buy for the lovers of true Canadian Hard & Heavy rock, powerful twin lead guitar excellent catchy songs great hooks, fantastic harmonies songs like “”Heavy Metal love”” are brilliant.
No Rest for the Wicked is the third studio album by the Canadian rock band Helix. It is also their major label debut, on Capitol Records.

One of the hardest working acts in Rock multi-hued history, Canadian five-piece Helix pretty much spent their major label years out on the road, showing that the tour-album-tour routine could indeed be made to work.
After a couple of strong albums, Helix got signed by major label Capitol. Finally the big break came, after nearly 10 years of hard work, with the excellent “No Rest For The Wicked“.

The trick was re-branding Helix as a ‘metal band’ instead of a plain old bar rock band, and add them into the rising hard rock new wave with the likes of Quiet Riot.
An early video for “Heavy Metal Love” was filmed in T-shirts and jeans. It was only after they switched to leather clothing and a more ‘metal image’, did people start to take notice. “Heavy Metal Love” was re-filmed for a more MTV appeal, and Helix were more or less off to the races. They had a boost from CanCon rules, which meant the video went into rotation on MuchMusic (the Canadian video station).

“Heavy Metal Love”, written in a crummy hotel room in Seaforth Ontario is an ode to Joan Jett; or rather a fantasy about Joan Jett. It remains as fun now as it was then. It has become timeless classic and was chosen for the wedding scene in the Trailer Park Boys movie that same year. It’s still a great groove, and a whole lot of fun.

Fun is a great word to describe Helix’s music in general, and “No Rest For The Wicked” is perhaps their strongest effort, easier to sink your teeth into on just one listen.
The new heavier direction didn’t alienate their old fans, but it did gain them plenty of new ones. It’s more than just “Heavy Metal Love” — every track is great, every single one of ’em.
The solid title track still serves as Helix’ show opener. Need some party rock? Look no further than “Let’s All Do It Tonight”. Listen to that one, and then try to forget the chorus.
If you like that kind of melodic hard rock, then you’ll probably also dig “Don’t Get Mad Get Even”, the second single / video made for the album.

Need some sleazy hard rock? Then “Check Out the Love”, before you do the “Dirty Dog”. Both songs are killer grooves, with the latter suspended by a killer riff and Vollmer’s shredded vocal cords. And let’s not forget “White Lace and Black Leather”. This is about as dirty as they get, and I love it.
On this album Helix started to write power ballads, and we have here the ballsy “Never Want To Lose You”, one of my favorite tracks on the LP.
Need a boost of adrenaline? Then the doctor prescribes “Ain’t No High Like Rock ‘N’ Roll”. Kicking up the pace a few notches, it still retains that Helix knack for melody.
Helix’s “No Rest For The Wicked” is an old favorite. Surely this was one of the best hard rock / sleazy rock releases to come out of Canada in its day. After all these years it still sounds great!!!!!!!!!
A Classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars AINT’ NO HIGH….LIKE ROCK N ROLL!,
This is hidden gem! If your idea of a good time is a LP filled to the brim with class party anthems then this one is not gonna disappoint one bit! Great drinkin music and in some ways similar to nine versions of Kiss’ Rock and Roll Alnite with a ballad for good measure on one silver disc! Praise be to God! Tryin to discuss individual trax would be defeatest here…cause basically they are all the same (and believe me that not a bad thing here) Large and loud chunks of cheezy, big hair rock! Queensryche this ain’t so beware! Picture this and I quote from Helix themselves…””Lookin for action, cruisin down the street, turn the radio up louder, listen to the beat””….Get the picture? Dumb, hell yeah, but great fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic 80 Hair Metal,
Do you like 80 metal? Awesome guitar solo? High energy Rock n roll? Then you need this LP for your collection. This band never received the attention they deserved lost in the shuffle with Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and other bands that couldn’t come close to the music Helix produced. Don’t look for hidden meanings or statements about the decay of society. This is rock n roll at its purest form.

5.0 out of 5 stars ah the memories,
back in ’84 I bought the tape of “”no rest for the wicked”” and my tape player in my ’73 vw van ate it. so I took it back to the record shop and thought i’d just exchange it since I didn’t get to here any of it. and the guy there said.””you can’t miss this one, these dudes got it together””… well I gave it another listen and the rest is history, as is the van, the tape and the band. The other day I kept hearing the opening drum beat and chords from “”Ain’t no high like rock n roll”” in my head and couldn’t shake it, so here I am some eighteen years later buying the CD. Any band that can pull me in from obscurity definitely deserves five stars. whoa yeah…

5.0 out of 5 stars Helix Rocks!!!
Helix is one of the great unsung bands of the 80. My husband had “”Walkin’ The Razor Edge”” as a teenager, but when we tried to get it from the local music store, they couldn’t get it. Usually an album has 2 or 3 great songs, a lot of okay songs and a couple of flat out stinkers. Helix doesn’t make stinkers. Helix doesn’t even make okay songs. Their albums are stuffed with nothing but great songs. This album is no exception. My personal favorite song off of this album is “”Does A Fool Ever Learn””. I would definitely recommend this album, and for that matter, this band to any true fan of 80 hair metal. Helix rocks!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars no rest for the wicked,
this is the best helix album out there and arguably the best heavy metal band out of the eighties.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price even for just one tune:,
“”Does a Fool Ever Learn”” — Great songwriting, great music with excellent rhythm & lead guitar.
———————————————————————————————-
5.0 out of 5 stars This stuff will last forever!,
One of my all time favorite bands! It should be part of any 80 Rock fan collection…
———————————————————————————————-
5.0 out of 5 stars why is this album such a hard find,
I bought this on tape back in 83 for the song never want to loose you which was on the radio all the time.
I can’t believe it isn’t considered the best song on the LP
———————————————————————————————-
5.0 out of 5 stars Great album!,
This is the best album from Helix.
———————————————————————————————-
5.0 out of 5 stars Essential,
This disc is as essential as Riot “”Fire Down Under””, Sabbath “”Heaven and Hell””, and GnR “”Appetite…””. NUff said.
———————————————————————————————-
5.0 out of 5 stars raiders of the lost rock!,
for those who truly remember what HEAVY METAL is all about. Canadian Rockers that deliver HEAVY METAL LOVE cause they never want to lose you! No Rest For The Wicked has to be one of the most over looked albums of the 80. Why ? This band should have enjoyed the same fortune and fame as America biggest acts like Ratt, Dokken, Poision ect. This was my favorite!
———————————————————————————————-
5.0 out of 5 stars Helix the bomb,
I have loved this LP for a very long time. I am just so glad that I found it and finally got it. It is a very good LP. So glad it is mine.

WHAT A GREAT ROCKIN’ LP
The first song I ever heard from them was DON’T GET MADE, GET EVEN, and boy was I hooked. The second song I had heard from these boys was HEAVY METAL LOVE. It even has it ballad of NEVER WANT TO LOSE YOU. I seem to rate this HELIX LP very high. I’m sure if yor a HELIX fan that you’ve probably already purchased this. If you’re new to HELIX, then what are you waiting for, BUY IT!!!!”
