HEAVY PETTIN, who took their name from a U.F.O. album, caused quite a stir especially in the first half of the ’80s. Brian May had produced their first album (“Letting Loose”, Polydor, 1983), while they had toured both sides of the Atlantic with KISS, OZZY, MOTLEY CRUE and AC/DC. The 7″ EP contains two tracks from the second album “Rock Ain’t Dead” (Polydor, 1985). “Sole Survivor” is somewhat reminiscent of DEF LEPPARD. It’s a well-crafted AOR hard rock song , which does not offer anything new, but it is played with passion. Steve “Hamie” Haymanm’s vocals are a bit like those of Biff Byford (SAXON). Side two’s “Crazy” is nearly a heavy metal tune but not exactly that. Interesting format, if of course you’re a fan of that particular idiom. Their story had a tragic end. Their track “Romeo was the entry of Great Britain for the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest and of course, it failed. This coincided with a 180-degree turn in their sound, which went poppy, so soon after that change, they disappeared.
