5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites,
First, Fish is a He not a They, this is not Marillion. They split up and Fish went on about his business.
If you don’t actually listen to the words then this probably isn’t for you. He sings about topics that many people avoid like spousal abuse. Gentlemens Excuse Me deals with those girls who like to use men, they take them for what they appreciate but go somewhere else for their ‘relationships’ whilst never appreciating whats right in front of them. In the first track he even mentions that lieing to kids is very damaging “at the time just a little white lie, it was one of the first but it hurt me the most, and the truth stung like tears in my eye, that even the good guys must die”.

To me this is a full bodied musical experience, the sound is smooth but with some bite and the lyrics really address some of my experiences and voice the things I see on the world.

I’m always surprised more people haven’t heard Fish.

Fish was the unique voice and mastermind behind progressive rock legends Marillion and on this recording he is captured at his best live. ‘For Whom the Bells Toll’, is an amazing testament to Fishs special live magic which he conjures up so brilliantly. With sleevenotes written by Fish, the recording was straight to tape and was made on New Years Eve in 1991 at the Edinburgh Playhouse. The line up consisted of Fish (vocals), Frank Usher (Guitar), Robin Boult (Bass), David Paton (bass), Mickey Simmonds (keyboards) and Kevin Wilkinson (drums). David Paton played with Pilot and featured on Kate Bushs first two albums and has also worked with Rick Wakeman. Mickey Simmonds has worked with Mike Oldfield and Kevin Wilkinson has played with China Crisis and Squeeze.
