This is another record that gets forgotten about but is really quite excellent for the most part. Faith or Fear appeared as part of The Ultimate Revenge Part 2 bill along with Death, Dark Angel and Forbidden and released this album in 1989 but that seemed to be it from them during this time. Similar to the Forced Entry album, the music on here is pretty heavy and aggressive punchy thrash that is, most importantly, very catchy. There is some real furious head banging moments to found on here for sure! And some really excellent memorable emotive ripping lead work as well. The production is not the best one you will ever hear, but I think it really suits the music. It was also recorded close to where the band are from in Philadelphia, so they got a really unique sound on here, compared to what other bands got on the East Coast, recording at Pyramid Sound in Ithaca etc, so I really like the sound on this record. If you are a fan of late 80’s American Thrash and haven’t heard this, check out it for sure, there is some absolutely great material for you to enjoy. I can’t think of really a bad moment on this album, all of it is fairly gripping, ripping thrash. My favourites are Lack of Motivation, Have No Fear, What Would You Expect, Shadow Knows and the title track. For fans of Forced Entry, Nuclear Assault, Forbidden, Flotsam and Jetsam and Devastation. Very underrated album!
classic of underground thrash
1-Lack Of Motivation
2-C. D. S.
3-Punishment Area
4-Rampage/ Nothing Uncommon
5-Have No Fear
6-What Would You Expect
7-Darkside
8-Shadow Knows
9-Ripoffs
10-Time Bomb
Faith Or Fear were one of those thrash metal bands who never released more than one album during their original activity in the late eighties. Punishment Area is a great effort with a surprisingly more versatile sound than what some of the other lesser bands put out at the time. There’s even some genuine creativity put into the songs. Tim Blackmans vocals are really suitable for the music and Punishment Area is one of the most significant releases ever.
SIDE 1
LACK OF MOTIVATION; C.D.S.; PUNISHMENT AREA; RAMPAGE / NOTHING UNCOMMON; HAVE NO FEAR.
SIDE 2
WHAT WOULD YOU EXPECT?; DARKSIDE; SHADOW KNOWS; RIPOFFS; TIME BOMB.
ORIGINAL PRESSING OF THIS HARD TO FIND VINYL LP.
GREAT SOLID THRASH FROM THE 80S.
A MUST FOR ALL EXTREME MUSIC COLLECTIONS!
Faith or fear deserved a lot more. One of the Philly /NJ area Thrash greats
faith or fear and dominance were two of the Philly/new jersey area greats. faith or fear was a very original thrash bands in their time. no one resembled them, they were in front of all the others in the scene and spawned meritt grant/ex-overkill guitarist(not on this LP) from horrorscope to WFO great LPs in their wright. they appeared with forbidden / Dark Angel /death /Raven for the ultimate revenge 2 VHS and very much held their own well! next to most of those bands you could very easily look bad but they seem to earn respect from the crowd. the only LP released buy them sadly but its a keeper maybe not for everyone but 9/10 people who like thrash will love it.

Very good!! Sadly the first and the last by this New Jersey quintet. I bought the original version used and is worth all the money. If you like Heretic, Testament or Helstar, this is for you!!

Hey “Faith Or Fear” and music lovers out there! I hate comparing one band to another but lets just say you guys should tour with Metallica! 🙂
The songs I love most on here are “Punishment Area”, “Nothing Uncommon”, “Have No Fear”, “Shadow Knows”, “Ripoffs” and my VERY favorite “Time Bomb”. This is a great LP, if you love metal. It really gets you going, and this music is still very much in style! A CLASSIC!
