Description

HARDCORE METAL (OAKLAND CALIFORNIA, USA)
Doomsday Device is one of Oaklands heaviest and hardest. Started years ago by Powerhouse bassist Ernie Cortez (RIP), who dropped his bass to take up vocal duties here, the band continues on to this day with ex-Powerhouse vocalist Cris Hower filling in the massive void left when Ernie tragically died in 2004. Taking their influences from bands like Cro-Mags, Sheer Terror, Motorhead, and Carnivore they draw their rage from the streets and focus a lot on family and the importance of friends without being cheesy or cliche. They’ve released one album entitled “Family Pride” and will soon release their sophmore effort on Industrial Strength Records. The band also features members and ex-members of Lowlife and D.R.I The 12 songs on “Family Pride” rip hard from start to finish and have plenty of breakdowns and gang vocals for maximum crowd participation.

Trk Song :
1 Live Your Own Life
2 Set in Stone
3 Family Pride
4 Decide
5 Already Beat
6 Work Together
7 Broken Truth
8 O.B.H.C.
9 B.T.S.
10 Beat ‘Em Down
11 Doomsday Device
12 Fathers Words + (hidden track = Kiss cover “Come on and love me”)

Each song was a testament to the bonds of friendship, to the glory of the hardcore scene, and to the struggles and triumphs of true life. The album, whose distribution was somewhat hindered by the small label that released, quickly became a necessity for every kid in a hoody and cammo shorts in Norcal. Doomsday Device shows, rare and rarely announced much ahead of time, became the stuff of legend, as hordes of Norcal hardcores tough guy elite took the stage to sing “their part” and then go barreling back into the crowd to mosh among the bloodied, sweaty masses of kids.
However, Doomsday Device was never viewed as a serious band, a “career endeavor”, but rather an excuse to get together with friends and have some fun. So it would often be pushed aside to make room for Ernies many other duties, namely the international tours of Powerhouse and the daily responsibilities of running the tattoo shop.
