Tooth and Nail is the second studio album by heavy metal band Dokken, released in 1984 through Elektra Records. It was the #35 album of 1985, was certified Platinum by the RIAA and reached #49 on the Billboard 200 U.S. album chart.

This album was the group first with bassist Jeff Pilson following Juan Croucier departure to join Ratt. Associate producer was Roy Thomas Baker, who had produced successful albums for Queen and The Cars and had re-recorded, remixed and re-mastered Motley Crue Too Fast for Love after the album was picked up by Elektra/WEA. It was produced by Tom Werman, known for producing several successful albums for Cheap Trick and the previous year Shout at the Devil, the Crue breakthrough album.
Lead-off single for the album was “”Into the Fire“”. A music video for the song received moderate play on MTV. “”Into the Fire”” spent eight weeks in the Top 40 of Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart from October to December 1984, peaking at #21 and charting for a total of eleven weeks.
Second single, “”Just Got Lucky“”, was somewhat less successful, again supported by a music video while charting on the 50-place Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for seven weeks during January and February 1985 and peaking at #27.
It would be a power ballad that would give the album and the band its biggest hit. “”Alone Again“” spent fourteen weeks on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, including two at its peak position of #20. More significantly, the melodic song of heartbreak was aided by strong rotation that spring and summer at MTV and gave the band their first and biggest hit on the Hot 100, where its eleven-week run from May to July 1985 peaked at #64.

No 80s metal collection is complete without this
This record has everything. George Lynch shredding for all he worth. From the opening chords of without warning to the searing riffs of Turn up the Action, there are no fillers here whatsoever.
How it never sold 20 million records we will never know.

This is definitive Dokken, as they used to say back then . . . . buy or die.
One of Dokken best albums

this album is one of the best that Dokken have ever released. The album released in 1984 holds the best guitar solo track “”without warning”” by George Lynch and the theme to “”Nightmare on elm street 3 the dream warriors”” track “”into the fire”” which is the opening track on the “”one live night”” album from 1998. out of all the Dokken albums, this is the best!

Continuing in the same melodic metal direction, Tooth and Nail brought some of their best songs, that became part of the glam metal history, like hard hitting title song, hymnic “Into the Fire”, “Just Got Lucky” and enjoyable ballad “Alone Again” that reached #64 on Billboard Charts all helped to push the sales of the album over one million number. Powerful vocals of Don Dokken and guitar pyrotechnics of George Lynch was what made this band going strong on their way of becoming one of the most successful metal bands of 1980´s, but the thing that was crucial the most was that their albums were comprised of strong songs without much filler, which was not the case with some of their contemporaries who weren´t able to cash in on good single or two.
