5.0 out of 5 stars Is that George???
Very good CD. The more you listen to it the better it gets. Although I think Dokken is at there best when they are doing the heavier stuff. I have to also say I have been a HUGE Lynch fan and Jon Levin sounds so much like him that its scary. He has all the trademark Lynch licks nailed. Pick it up. The biggest problem I have with this CD is the goofy band shots and CD artwork.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yeah,
I like this album better than their last few. And as has been said before, the guitarist sounds a bit too much like George Lynch on almost all the songs. Decide for yourself if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I love the classic Dokken sound, but I had to listen to it a couple of times for it to grow on me. Yeah, I do like it, and I’d recommend it to any fan of Dokkens music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing –
I have been a Dokken/Lynch fan for 20 years and this is a very under rated album. Jon Levin who kicked butt with Warlock/Doro back in the day is an exceptional guitarist. When I first listened to the album I immediately started criticizing and comparing Jon to George Lynchs guitar work. But then I took a step back to think objectively. I listened again and the album absolutely kicks from beginning to end. this is awesome and how could I have missed and overlooked this masterpiece. I guess I was too busy critcizing and comparing the guitar work to Lynch. It has flow, diverse musical influences yet unmistakeably classic DOKKEN style, killer licks, riffs, vocals, lyrics,…refreshing and a total package. After listening a few times I rate all songs at least 9 out of 10 (Most are 10s). Yes, the Lynch guitar solos influence is there, but what do you expect…Lynch was one of Jons guitar heroes back in the 80s. Personally, I think Jon has the potential to be an overall better guitarist, but may be a bit too modest to realize it. I saw Dokken play at JAXX – a small night club in Springfield, VA last year…talked to Jon after the show, got a guitar pick and autographed CD by all members. The only thing I didn’t like about the album is the CD cover artwork (I had to find something wrong for the skeptics). Come on Don, you could have done better than that…it looks too cartoonish…but thats O.K. I can live with it. The contents more than make up for the cover. I too hope that Don keeps this lineup, especially Jon.
If you are a Dokken fan, especially old school Dokken from 80s this is the one to get. Refreshing yet without the appearance of rehashing old school 80s metal. Just right and just what is needed given todays music climate (or lack thereof). If you are a halfway decent guitarist (or aspire to be one) or have any appreciation for this music genre then you will not be disappointed. Thanks for reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars DOKKEN KICKS ASS!!!,
Don Dokkens lyrics are the s**t. Hes has songs for every emotion, unlike some metal bands…death, 666, hate crew 24/7. I’m 21 years old and I got into Dokken when I saw Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and heard Dream Warriors. Dokken always stuck out to me more so than lots of bands, even though they themselves said that they were doing what everyone else was doing in the 80s, they most definitely sounded like no other band musically or vocally. Keep kickin ass Don!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classy Release From A Classy Band,
I’m not going to waste any time making comparisons of new Dokken to classic Dokken, George Lynch to Jon Levin (or Reb or John for that matter), Jeff to Barry… you get the idea. Everyone else has done that already. “Hell To Pay” is, in actual fact, a very well-written rock record with strong vocals and superb musicianship, regardless of who’s involved. There isn’t a weak track to be found. Listening to this over and over makes me appreciate how important and relevant this band is to the their genre and todays music scene. “Hell To Pay” ranks high as one of the BEST rock releases this year. Do yourself a favor and give this record a chance. You will not be disappointed! Highly recommended!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don’t listen to the naysayers…,
Some people have no clue what is good and what is passe’. This new disk by Dokken rocks. Just one thing, you do have to listen to the songs, the lyrics actually mean something. This is a more mature, more adult, Dokken. This disk touched me in many ways as Erase the Slate did. Excellent listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hell to Pay is a great record,
Hell to Pay is the follow up to what i believe to be the strongest Dokken album 2002s Long Way Home and it delivers a good heavy rock album. It opens with “The Last Goodbye” which has a good riff and has really strong ballads like “Care for You” but i find the Faster rock songs a winner like the awesome “Better off Before” which is Classic Dokken. And the incredible riffage and speed drumming of “Dont Bring Me Down” which is highly reminiscent of “Tooth and Nail”. I love this album and i think if you enjoy their music you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars this release rocks!!!!,
they finally have a release here without George that the whole CD is great and timeless, meaning you do not get tired of it AND IT ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JON LEVIN AND CO. GIVES US a great CD and i m very hard on bands because i don’t like to see people spend their money on releases with only 1 or 2 good songs.cant wait for there next CD titled (lightening strikes again) anything more you need to know, nope

5.0 out of 5 stars Dokken…still Rokken,
Dokken fans will love this effort and everyone else wont deny its merit. We all miss George but this line up captures that 80’s sound many of us grew up with. Keep it up guys!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to the classic sound with a modern edge.,
I don’t know what everyone is bitching about. This is a great sounding record in this age of nu-metal (with the tired sounding Pro Tools mixed crap). I think everyone just grows up and longs for the day when the bands they loved would sound EXACTLY like they did back then and release the SAME songs again. I just don’t get it. Be lucky you have this. I think Don did a great job writing these songs with the other people involved, and Jon Levin is a great addition to the band. Sure there could have been some heavier songs, but has anyone heard what George Lynch is doing these days? He went from rap metal to releasing the same old tired cover songs from the sixties and seventies…..boring. I, for one, am enjoying this CD and I’m still playing it two weeks after I bought it.
