Imagine Iron Maiden and Deep Purple doing an album together. Or Yngwie Malmsteen joining Metallica… Or Gene Simmons of Kiss with Black Sabbath…
If you are into Dio, Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, The Scorpions, Soundgarden, David Chastain, Savatage,Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, Old Rush, Nazareth, Steve Vai, Fates Warning, Montrose so is David Neil Cline and these influences shine through “”Thorough Scrutiny”” which is already his third self-financed release. “”Thorough Scrutiny”” doesn’t have only 12 killer songs but convinces the listener with a totally untrendy and self-confidential. It’s almost never that you hear a record with this much depth into rock and roll/metal. This album goes places that newer CD’s don’t. This guy is a great guitar player too. The guitar work is amazing- touching into hints of doom lead riffs and dual overdubbed guitar harmonies…very tastefully done. One thing about Cline is his ability to achieve that bigger than life, timeless production that has far less of a technical sound, but one that breathes effortlessly.

The third full length album brought us several personal changes and established the following crew: David Neil Cline (lead, acoustic and rhythm guitars, keys, Hammond 3 organ, vocals, bass guitar, bongos, tambourine), J.D. Donnelly (bass guitar), Dexter Arney (drums), Mike Combs (backing vocals), Jeff Giovannangeli (drums), Donny Allen (rhythm guitar) and Tom McConnel (bass guitar).David’s music is between American hard rock and traditional heavy metal. “”Thorough Scrutiny”” is most heavy stuff recorded by him so far. I can write even more – it is the album with the greatest quantity of thrashy riffs. Just listen to “”The Fate Of Pain”” and “”Life Under Glass”” to consider my words an absolute true. Playing such covers like Rory Gallagher’s “”Follow Me”” and Pat Travers’ “”Snortin’ Whiskey Live””, David’s music got a blues rock feeling here and there. I do like his touching guitar solos at some moments, however all of them are still melodious and intelligently executed. The arrangements are straight enough what makes David’s music very accessible and absorbing.

A dynamism and rhythm are the characteristics of “”Thorough Scrutiny””, so every fan of dynamic and rhythmical music should be enjoyed with the stuff. David showed himself as a flexible instrumentalist who can translate his ideas into the guitar language. A hit heavy thrash release!

When I learnt that Bill Cozy left the band, I was pretty sure that “Thorough Scrutiny” would be a stylistic step back to “A Fit Of Rage”. Nothing more erroneous! David’s music has always oscillated between American hard rock and traditional heavy metal. “Thorough Scrutiny” is most heavy stuff recorded by him so far.
