Description

Country of origin: Norway
Location: Stange, Innlandet
Formed in: 2000
Genre: Industrial Extreme Metal

Black Metal mixed with “”Electro”” This genre is gaining enormous popularity among Metalheads, Electro Metal! AND OCEANS and THE KOVENANT are playing this kind of music. Not so brutal Black Metal, very riff-driven, typical shriek vocals, electronic elements, Industrial landscapes and wicked keyboards! Killer combo! And a helluva record! From the first song “”Cybernetic”” you’re in for a treat! The aggressive riffing and the catchy chorus will hook you in at the first listen. Next song “”Astral Luminance”” pushes things forward and manages to create a magnificent song, with one of the most catchy choruses I’ve heard in a long time! You can enjoy some clean vocals too! “”Intragalactic”” features really good clean vocals! “”Momentary”” a fast paced song with furious riffing and drumming, gives us a little twist in the vocals, featuring some falsettos a la King Diamond. This album is full of furious riffing, versatile vocals and catchy choruses, if you don’t mind the electronic elements, you’ll enjoy this as much as I did! Recommended to all of you that want to explore new genres of Metal, don’t be shy, try out some Electro Metal.

Tracklist: Cybernetic, Astral Luminance, Neutronomicon, Intragalactic, Presence, Momentary, Enlightenment

QUICK NOTE: If you are not a fan of industrial metal then this is not for you. Moving on.

The album starts off with the very awesome title track, setting the atmosphere of the album almost instantaneously. You can almost feel that you are in a huge industrial setting…As I listen to this, I imagine myself in a post apocalyptic world, akin to the movie “Blade Runner”. Although I can definitely tell that there is a very industrial feeling to this album, there is also a very dark atmosphere blended in very well.

Now, like any industrial band, Cynicon does not have very complex riffage at all, no solos, and the sound tends to drone on a bit. Now don’t get me wrong, they do this exceedingly well. Anyone that is a fan of Fear Factory’s older works, “Demanufacture” and “Obsolete” will really like this. The vocals really stand out…it’s hard to describe. They have a sort of “black metal shriek” quality to them, but not so much. The best quality of the vocals, however, is how they blend in with the melodies of the music…it’s just great.

The guitar work is just awesome. If you are biased against simple riffs then you might not share the same opinion as mine, but I really enjoy the riffage a lot shown here.
The fantastic keyboards are the main thing that has made me like this band. Ailorn has done an awesome job in creating a very dark industrial atmosphere that blends in perfectly with the rest of the music to create very good music. “Intragalactic” and “Presence” have intros that just scream techno though, but it’s a very good thing.

Overall, I think this album was done pretty good. The production is crystal clear. This is really a good album. Any fans of industrial metal, or even fans of extreme metal that don’t mind keyboards should really give this a try.
