Description

Gabriele chitarra solista
– Enea chitarra ritmica e voce
– Paola basso
Maurizio batteria

CLIVIA-biography –

The CLIVIA project was born in the spring of 1993 from the ashes of a band from the Marche: “REMBRANT”. After the recording of a demo-tape, “Solo bugie”, and the alternation of various musicians from Urbino, the line-up stabilized in ’94 with Aldo, Gabriele, Enea, Paola and Marco. Inherited some songs of the previous project penned by the then solo guitarist Aldo,  CLIVIA decide to keep singing in the mother tongue. At the beginning of ’95 the band met in the studio, where under the guidance of Paul Chain they press a mini-CD: “The notebook of bad thoughts”. The drummer Marco is replaced by Maurizio. The mini-CD contains four songs: the new season 11 dish – you were my father – no love song.  It was released in ’96 by the FREAK OUT! rec. and distributed by FLYING RECORDS. The members of the group: Aldo voce Gabriele lead guitar – Aeneas rhythm guitar and voice – Paola bass Maurizio battery Aldo and Paola are part of the initial formation. Gabriele prima and Enea pol, after various alternations in a trash band of the area, arrive at CLIVIA in 1994. Maurizio after four years of study with maestro Vladimiro Campanelli and after playing in a cover band, arrives in CLIVIA upon completion of the recording. The mini-CD and more generally the music produced by CLIVIA has been labelled in different ways: those who talk about grunge should remember that some pieces are dated 1992; those who refer to Italian rock cannot find any appeals to the various Litfiba, Ligabue, etc … We can speak of rock in its broadest exception which contains the sound of Seattle, but also that of the “Bay Area” of San Francisco “, (see the Prato or the Territory). All American music is of inspiration without however ignoring the valid points of the Italian musical tradition. Although by nature an electric band, CLIVIA often takes on an acoustic guise, especially for evening concerts in pubs. In the acoustic the third guitar is played by Aldo, Paola joins the choirs, Gabriele plays the violin in some pieces and Maurizio alternates percussion with the drums (sometimes the sound of a harmonica and an ocarina was also heard ).

Freak Out! Records (1997)
The Clivia is a group of 5 guys produced by Freakout! with the supervision of Paul Chain.
I listened to the CD, that contains only four tracks, all recorded with a high quality, beautiful cover that contains the words and photos of the band.
… I love the grunge and all its derivatives but I have always been prejudiced against Italian bands trying to sound like the originate from the streets of Seattle and sound like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc. .
Clivia despite being based in the American grunge style, can thankfully create their own sound that is clear, powerful and determined.
The two constantly distorted guitars accompany a song with two voices, well coordinated with each other. The voice of the singer Aldo, is really beautiful.
Excellent agreement tightly knit groove between the bass and drums, and amazing rhythm changes.
All 4 tracks are supported by excellent lyrics, especially the very strong and expressive lyrics “You were my father” (” Tu eri mio padre”) where there is’ a strong outburst against the father of one of the group’s band members, as I understand.

Clivia have managed to produce a very good CD for all lovers of grunge! Well done guys!
