FLIGHT 16: S/T

SAMPLES: www.allmusic.com/album/flight-16-mw0000036697
After an initial misstep in signing with a Polish label that did not have much experience in promoting bands, Flight 16 find themselves working with 550 Music and Epic Records. Flight 16 present a more “”contemporary”” hard rock oriented sound with influences of ’70s hard rock. The young band claims Metallica and Iron Maiden to be their main influences, yet you won’t hear a song that sounds like either of the two metal titans on this disc.
The first thing that becomes apparent when listening to track one of four is how awesome the vocalist is. This comes as a breath of fresh air when some of them who are obviously not suited to the role at all, as this guy Paul Obertelli is; make you want to burst your own ear drums with an air gun just to escape the nonsensical noise coming out of your speakers. The best songs are “”If All The World Hated Me”” (also found on the OzzFest ’98 sampler 2 CD set), “”Snap,”” and “”Fly.”” All in all, Flight 16 actually have a refreshing sound without being too hard or too mellow. The vocals are not derivative, the guitars showcase competent technique and the rhythm section is solid. If contemporary hard rock is what you’re looking for, Flight 16 just might be your next favorite band

5.0 out of 5 stars 60’s rOck wiTh tHe 90’s tWiSt!
These guys play rock music the way it was meant to be played. Nice guitar riffs interwoven with their catchy rock tunes. Classic rock lines spiced with contemporary sequences, its the 60’s meets the 90’s. I hope to hear more from this group, since they’re one of the few bands nowadays that’s playing real rock music.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best CD you will ever hear,
I first saw Flight 16 open for Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains in October 1998. The crowd was lame but the music was great. The next day i bought the CD and have listened to it nearly everyday since. Every note and every word is performed to perfection. The music can be hard ‘If all the world hated me’ it can be mellow ‘My only love’ and ‘My emotion’ and can be depressing ‘It’s a shame.’ Still after you listen to each song you can relate and feel good. I would recommend this CD to any fan of rock n’ roll and alternative rock. You will not be let down. Promised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harmonious metal,
This album is full of very original tightly performed semi pop harmony metalish Groovy rock, an excellent find for anyone looking for something new non radio stuff, even now, what ?five years after this album was released?, it still sounds fresh.I never heard of these guys until about a week ago Its a shame that radio and MTV exist and dont pay attention to bands like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The band are now a 3 piece!
Flight 16 had a real bad time with Sony and then Sanctuary Management. They are still together but now main writer Paul Obertelli fronts the band and they are really sounding cool!
They have got a new management and have started to get some feed back from some labels, so fingers crossed they will be doing another record! …

Saw these guys open for Jerry Cantrell and was blown away by their performance. You can tell they’ve been a band a while because they actually had a stage presence. They looked extremely comfortable on stage and it’s always good when the artist/band is comfortable…helps them deliver the music better. Okay about the album, it kicks ass from beginning to end. I’m really no good and describing albums beyond saying they rock. However I do have sum press stuff that gives a good description of the band: “”Flight 16 are a rock band from Croydon, England who are best suited to do one very important thing–ROCK! They make music the old fashioned way using guitars, bass, drums, vocal cords and emotion. This young, four-piece group have been playing in and around London for over six years honing their skills and fine-tuning their sound. Their sound is very reminiscent of and strongly influenced by Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Alice In Chains, Black Sabbath and the vocals melodies of the Beatles. At the end of the day all twelve songs fit perfectly together to form one solid ROCK album.”” By the way it’s also produced by Dave Jerden who kicks ass….this album just gets ya moving…that’s about all I can say…

Of what I heard of Flight 16’s “”Fly”” from their CD “”Flight 16″” is a real treat for the ears:Ear Candy! You can almost sense the vibrancy and color in the song. For a rock that is NOT bad at all considering the generally bleak, desolate (Alternative)rock music terrain. The last time a rock song blew the charts was in 1995 with the song “”I Gotta Girl”” from “”Elastic Firecracker”” by Tripping Daisy. Also Duncan Sheik’s “”She Runs Away”” is another obvious standout in alternative rock. There might be a couple more songs that are like that, but I do not know of any at this moment. But “”Fly”” always make me think of celestial-sounding New Age fusion-jazz and for that reason stands out(outstanding)for a rock song;it has been a long time. In closing,I strongly urge you to buy “”Flight 16″” for that one song fittingly called “”Fly””.”
