Description
ACONITE THRILL: The Recliner. The debut full length from Aconite Thrill is far from a relaxing listen like the album title would suggest. This is emotive rock meets modern metal, but the jumble of off-kilter beats, random-like guitar parts, mixed-up song structures and shouty vocals, makes for a difficult listen. It’s like listening to Papa Roach backwards, or at the wrong speed, or both! It’s impossible to pigeon hole this band completely, there are many different styles thrown into this chaotic mix, including some classic fret board tapping on ‘Can’t Keep A Good Cop Down’. The sanest part of the album is when the band takes a break from bashing their instruments and offers up a ballad in the form of the Cure-esque ‘VIBGYOR’. Thumbs up for trying something different and having the technically demanding musical ability to execute it but the pendulum has swung too far the opposite way resulting in a rather irritable and uncomfortable listen.
